Erilius was shot from water level, looking up at the face of the wave as it built toward its break. The water is deep teal clear, cold, saturated and the sky above is open and bright. But it is the cloud that makes this photograph.
A single cloud sits in the background, its edge tracing the exact line of the wave’s lip. Not approximately. Not almost. Exactly. As if the sky had read the ocean’s intention and drawn it out in advance a forecast written in cloud before the wave had finished forming.
It is the kind of alignment that cannot be planned. You can only be in the water, at the right moment, looking in the right direction, and notice it before it’s gone.
For people who look at things carefully. Who will find this image and keep finding it.
