Capturing the light, landscape and spirit of Australia’s South Coast

About Greg Selby Photography

A lifelong connection to the natural world

Growing up on the Far South Coast of New South Wales, Greg Selby developed a deep connection with the ocean and the landscapes that surrounded him.

Long before photography became an artistic pursuit, Greg’s relationship with the natural world was shaped by time spent exploring the coastline, chasing waves, and experiencing the ever changing moods of the sea. Those early experiences created a lasting appreciation for the power of light, weather, movement, and the unique character of each environment.

Photography began as a way to preserve those moments  capturing the energy of the ocean, the freedom of exploration, and the beauty found in unexpected places. Over time, that passion evolved into a deeper creative journey, leading Greg beyond the coastline and into the mountains, forests, and wilderness of Australia’s South Coast.

Today, these experiences continue to influence his work. Every photograph is shaped by a lifetime of observing nature and waiting for those rare moments when landscape, light, and atmosphere come together in perfect harmony.

The Artist Behind the Lens

Greg Selby is an Australian fine art landscape photographer whose work explores the relationship between light, landscape, and emotion.

His photography is guided by a belief that the most powerful images are not simply found  they are experienced, understood, and patiently revealed. Through careful observation and a deep connection to the environments he photographs, Greg seeks to capture moments where nature expresses its true character.

Rather than simply documenting a location, Greg’s work aims to convey the feeling of being there the silence of a mountain landscape at first light, the energy of a powerful coastline, or the atmosphere created when changing weather transforms a familiar scene.

His approach is centred around patience, preparation, and respect for the natural world. Many of his photographs are created after returning to locations repeatedly, allowing time for the landscape to reveal the right combination of conditions, light, and atmosphere.

Each image represents more than a moment captured in time. It represents a connection between artist and environment a personal interpretation of Australia’s wild places and the fleeting beauty found within them.

Through his work, Greg invites viewers to experience the landscapes that inspire him and to reconnect with the natural world through carefully crafted fine art photography.

Fine art landscape photography inspired by the timeless beauty of Australia

Greg Selby creates fine art landscape photographs that celebrate the quiet power, scale, and beauty of the Australian landscape.

Working along the South Coast of New South Wales, Greg is drawn to places where land, ocean, light, and atmosphere come together in extraordinary ways. His work is guided by a deep respect for the natural world and a desire to preserve the fleeting moments that are often felt, but rarely captured.

Each photograph is the result of patience, exploration, and a connection to place waiting for the precise alignment of light, weather, and landscape that transforms a scene into something timeless.

A lifelong connection to the landscapes

The landscapes of the South Coast are at the heart of Greg’s work. From rugged coastal cliffs and endless ocean horizons to ancient mountains and forests shaped over generations, these environments provide an endless source of inspiration.

Places such as Didthul (Pigeon House Mountain) and Gulaga hold a powerful presence, offering more than dramatic scenery. They represent the character, history, and spirit of the region  landscapes that invite contemplation and connection.

Greg approaches each location with respect and care, recognising that these places are not simply subjects to photograph, but environments with their own stories, meaning, and identity.

The pursuit of the extraordinary moment

Landscape photography is an exercise in patience and observation.

Greg often returns to the same locations many times, studying how they change through seasons, weather patterns, and shifting light. The final image is not only a record of a place, but an interpretation of a moment that may exist for only a few minutes.

A break in storm clouds, the warmth of the last rays of sunset, or the first light touching a mountain peak can reveal a landscape in a way that feels completely new.

These rare moments form the foundation of Greg’s work.

The Artist’s Process

From landscape to lasting artwork

Every Greg Selby photograph begins long before the shutter is pressed.

The process starts with exploration discovering landscapes, understanding their character, and developing a connection with the environment. Many locations are revisited over time, allowing Greg to experience how they change through different seasons, weather patterns, and natural light.

The final image is often the result of patience and persistence: waiting for the exact combination of conditions that reveals something extraordinary.

A landscape may be familiar, but the moment is always unique.

The movement of clouds, the direction of light, the atmosphere in the air, and the changing conditions of nature all play a role in creating an image that cannot be replicated.

Capturing emotion, not just scenery

Great landscape photography is not simply about documenting where a photograph was taken.

It is about capturing what it felt like to be there.

The silence of a mountain before sunrise.
The energy of the ocean during changing weather.
The warmth of golden light across an ancient landscape.

These are the experiences Greg seeks to preserve  moments that create an emotional connection between the viewer and the natural world.

From field to fine art print

Once an image has been carefully selected, the creative process continues through refinement and preparation for print.

Each photograph is meticulously processed to preserve the natural beauty of the scene while maintaining the atmosphere and emotion experienced in the field.

Printed using premium archival materials, every artwork is created to provide exceptional detail, depth, and longevity.

The finished piece represents the complete journey from a moment in nature to a timeless artwork designed to be enjoyed for years to come.

Greg’s Philosophy

"The landscape is always changing. The light moves, the weather shifts, and every moment is different. My goal is to capture those rare occasions when nature reveals something extraordinary a moment that can never truly be repeated & is often missed”
