Ephior was made at Kiama on a day when the weather couldn’t decide what it wanted to be. The horizon was dark — the deep, bruised dark of a storm that had been building offshore for hours. The sky was heavy. And then, through a gap in the clouds, a single ray of sunlight came down.

It found the wave.

The water lit up turquoise from behind, backlit and glowing against that dark horizon, the kind of colour that has no business existing in those conditions. The ray didn’t last. It moved on within seconds. But for that moment, the contrast between the storm and the light was absolute — a finger of sun pointing at the ocean as if to say: here. This one.

It is a photograph about the drama of weather and the indifference of light. About being in the right place when the sky does something it will never do again in quite the same way.

For spaces that want something with atmosphere. Something that changes depending on the light in the room.

Printed to museum-quality archival standards using premium pigment inks. Available on Satin Paper, Matte Paper, Framed Canvas, or Glass.

Artist's Quiet Thoughts

The storm was doing everything. I just waited for the light to find the wave. — Greg Selby
