Emitior was made at water level, looking directly into the barrel as it formed. The wave is enormous a full, deep teal-green face with the tunnel clearly open inside, the geometry of the curl precise and complete. Off the lip, white water explodes outward against a heavy grey sky that gives the colour of the water nowhere to go but forward.
This is a wave at maximum expression. Not building, not breaking fully formed, holding everything it has for one more fraction of a second. The kind of wave that makes experienced surfers go quiet.
Shot from the water, close enough to feel the scale of it. The grey sky is not incidental it is what makes the teal of the wave so vivid, so present. Without that contrast, the photograph is different. With it, the wave owns the frame.
