Eluvias
There are moments in nature that arrive without warning — raw, electric, and gone before the mind can fully comprehend them. Eluvias captures one such moment: a bolt of lightning striking the open ocean off the South Coast of NSW, frozen in stark black and white against a vast and restless sky.
Photographed along the rugged coastline near Narooma, this image was born from patience and instinct — waiting in darkness for the atmosphere to break. When it did, the result was a single frame of extraordinary energy: white light tearing through black sky, the ocean below both witness and mirror to the storm above.
The decision to render Eluvias in black and white was deliberate. Stripped of colour, the image becomes about contrast, tension and raw elemental force. The lightning is not softened — it commands. And yet there is a strange stillness in the composition, a moment of held breath between the strike and the silence that follows.
