Ellusinian III | Coastal Decor III Part Sequence |  Australia | Greg Selby

Ellusinian III is the final frame in a sequence of three, Taken inside the same wave that began as a clean dark form on the horizon and committed fully in the second frame. This is where the sequence ends: inside the barrel, looking out through the oval opening as the wave closes around the camera. The ceiling is luminous teal, fractured and alive with light. The face streaks dark and fast around the curve. The exit is a white oval of sky and open water, shrinking.

To be inside a wave at this moment is to be inside something that has no interest in you at all. The ocean is completing a process that began hundreds of kilometres away, and you happen to be in the middle of it. The photograph does not romanticise this. It simply shows what it looks like from the inside.

Shot on the South Coast, where the Sapphire Coast delivers the kind of hollow, fast-breaking waves that make this perspective possible. Most photographers never get here. This is what it looks like when you do.

On its own, Ellusinian III is one of the most immersive ocean photographs in the collection. As the final frame of the series, it is the destination the first two frames were always moving toward.

Printed to museum-quality archival standards using premium pigment inks. Available on Satin Paper, Matte Paper, Framed Canvas, or Glass.

The third frame is the one you came for. Everything before it was the journey to get here. — Greg Selby
