Adali was made at water level, looking up at a wave that had no interest in being beautiful. The face is dark almost black, textured and heavy, the surface carrying the weight of everything that built it. Behind it, the sky has cracked open just enough to let silver light through, and that contrast is the whole photograph.
This is not a wave about colour. It is a wave about mass. About the feeling of something enormous moving toward you with complete indifference. The light behind it only makes it darker by comparison.
There is a stillness to it that is deceptive. The wave is coiled, not calm. Everything in this image is about what happens next.
