Ophyx | Coastal Decor | Greg Selby

Ophyx was made from water level on the South Coast, looking up along the full length of a wave that had no interest in being modest. The face rises like a wall dark, smooth, and vast, The lip ragged and textured at the top where the wind has caught it, a warm pastel sky of pink and blue visible above. The horizon has disappeared entirely behind the wave. There is nothing in this frame but water and sky, and the water is winning.

The scale of this photograph is something that reveals itself slowly. Shot from the water, the perspective compresses distance and amplifies height the wave fills the frame from edge to edge, the face a continuous dark surface that rises and rises until it breaks into that ragged, wind-torn lip against the soft sky above.

This is the Sapphire Coast when a long-period Southern Ocean swell arrives and the ocean stacks itself into something that feels less like a wave and more like a moving landform. Ophyx captures that moment the wave at its most imposing, the sky at its most gentle, the contrast between the two doing all the work.

For large walls and spaces that need presence. The ocean as architecture.
